How Are Injection Molds Colored?

2025-07-09

Injection molds are widely used nowadays. There are many colorful injection molds on the market, and the colors are different. So how are injection molds colored? The following is a brief introduction to the three common coloring methods of injection molding, hoping to be helpful to everyone.

Injection mold processing :

  1. The compound colorant coloring method is the most accurate Dongguan injection mold processing coloring technology, which can produce accurate, highly repeatable and appropriate colors, and is most suitable for small batch production. Most commercial plastics are colored on injection molding machines, while most engineering plastics are already colored when they are sold.

  1. The injection mold processing masterbatch coloring method is divided into granular and liquid materials, both of which can be mixed into a variety of colors. Among them, granular materials are the most common. The use of masterbatch can be achieved by mixing plastic with masterbatch and actually delivering the mixture or masterbatch into the injection molding machine. Its advantages are: cheaper color, reduced dust problems, reduced raw material costs, and more convenient storage.

  1. The injection molding dry color powder coloring method is the cheapest, and its disadvantage is that it is dusty and dirty when used. To ensure uniform and accurate color during the production process, use bags or cartons of specific sizes to hold the correct amount of dry color powder.

When using dry color powder for coloring, the surface of the plastic pellets must be covered with a uniform layer of colorant so that the color can be evenly distributed in the melt. The mixing method and time must be standardized to ensure uniform coloring. Once the coloring steps are determined, they must be persisted in. In addition, it is also necessary to prevent the color powder from absorbing moisture during storage, otherwise it will easily solidify and cause streaks on the injection mold.

It can be seen that the three injection mold processing coloring methods have their own strengths. We need to choose the appropriate coloring method according to our own products so that the processed products can meet our requirements and minimize costs, thereby maximizing economic benefits.
